Supporting Teenagers with Autism workshops offer advice on social skills and mental health matters

Autism Berkshire is running a new series of free workshops for parents and carers of teenagers with autism living in Berkshire this autumn.

Led by specialists from the Centre for Autism at the University of Reading, the workshops will look at a range of issues to help parents support their teenage children.

Social skills, relationships and communication will be covered in one session, while the other will focus on mental health.

Evening and Saturday workshops are available to help those with work commitments at other times.

The workshops are as follows:

Supporting Teenagers with Autism – Social Skills, Relationships and Communication

Wokingham: Monday, September 18, at Wokingham Youth & Community Centre, 35 Reading Rd, Wokingham, RG41 1EG. Tea and coffee from 9.30am, with the workshop running from 10am to 1pm, led by clinical psychologist Dr Liz Dawes.

Thatcham: Wednesday, October 11, at the West Berkshire Council Central Family Hub, Park Lane Building, Thatcham, RG18 3PG. Workshop from 7pm to 9.30pm, led by Dr Fiona Knott, a clinical psychologist and co-director of the Centre for Autism.

Reading: Saturday, October 14, at the Autism Berkshire office at 7 Richfield Place, Richfield Avenue, Reading, RG1 8EQ. Tea and coffee from 9.30am, with the workshop running from 10am to 1pm, led by Jo Billington, a doctoral researcher and parenting practitioner.
