What is Asperger Syndrome?
For those at the more able end of the spectrum the condition is referred to as Asperger Syndrome.
People with autism or Asperger Syndrome can be extremely anxious, and may become frightened or aggressive quite suddenly, for reasons which are not apparent. Their ability to develop friendships is impaired, as is their capacity to understand other people’s feelings. They often develop strange obsessions, and rigid patterns of behaviour. They need specialist help to cope with the demands of everyday life. Their parents and carers have a very demanding job, and The Berkshire Autistic Society exists to provide practical help for families caring for a child or an adult with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
