Free Pre-Assessment Workshop places available at seven venues across Berkshire

We have places available at a series of free Pre-Assessment Workshops for parents and carers with children aged 5+ who are waiting for a Berkshire CAMHS autism assessment, taking place at seven locations around the county before the school summer holidays start.

The half-day workshops are as follows:

Slough (at the YES Shop in the Queensmere shopping centre):  Friday, June 16; Friday, July 7.

Thatcham (at the Central Family Wellbeing Hub):  Monday, June 19

Reading (at the Autism Berkshire office): Tuesday, June 20; Tuesday, July 11.

Wokingham (at Wokingham Youth Centre): Monday, June 26; Monday, July 17.

Windsor (at Windsor Youth & Community Centre): Monday, July 10.

Bracknell (at Bracknell Open Learning Centre): Tuesday, July 18.

Hungerford (at The Croft Hall): Wednesday, July 19.

Click here for full details of all these workshops and to register for free places. Please make sure you book places at workshops being held in the local authority area where you live.

We run them in conjunction with the Autism Pathway team at Berkshire CAMHS to provide support, information and signposting advice to parents and carers while their children wait for an appointment for an assessment.

Pre-assessment workshops have proved popular with parents since we first provided them in Reading two years ago.

Recent feedback we have received from people who attended sessions included the following comments:

“Extremely useful, go!”

“I liked sitting down with other parents who are in a similar situation… I didn’t know any parents who are going through what I’m going through.”

“I was really relieved and felt very supported that the people that were involved actually had experiences of autism… they were listening from a place of understanding, rather than education.”

“I wish I had been encouraged to get involved sooner.”

“We felt totally listened to… everything that we raised and other parents raised was listened to and responded to.”

“It was good to hear what works for other parents.”

“I would recommend it to someone to go along… even if you know the stuff already, it’s good to meet other parents.”

“It made me feel so much better meeting other people… I feel I can support my child better now.”

  • Our pre-assessment workshops are funded by grants from the Berkshire East and Berkshire West Federations of NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups.
