Warning to parents about open windows after two children hurt in falls

After two children were treated at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in the past fortnight for head injuries suffered in falls from windows, parents and carers are being urged to take extra care during the current hot weather.

Both children, of pre-school age, fell from first-floor windows and had to be transferred to specialist units for further treatment.

Reading Local Safeguarding Children Board is asking parents to be on their guard if children are playing near open windows, or there is a risk they could climb up furniture close to open windows.

Falls are the most common cause of accidents in the home and account for 44 per cent of all accidents involving children
