A Socialeyes course to help autistic adults to develop social skills and essential skills for everyday life will take place in Reading this autumn.
The course is free of charge and is open to autistic adults aged 18 and above who are residents of the Reading Borough Council area.
Led by experienced trainers from Autism Berkshire, the course starts at the New Directions Centre, at 330 Northumberland Avenue, in Whitley, on Monday, October 30. Classes run from 1.30pm to 3.30pm and the course runs for eight weeks until December 19.
Socialeyes was developed by the National Autistic Society in conjunction with autistic adults and leading professionals.
It focuses on eight social skills that people on the autism spectrum can have difficulty with, including starting and ending a conversation, body language and facial expressions, eye contact and personal space.
We also have places available on a Socialeyes course for autistic adults in the Slough and Windsor & Maidenhead council areas starting on Monday, October 30, at East Berkshire College’s Langley campus, in Station Road. Classes run from 6pm to 8pm.
Residents of Slough and Windsor & Maidenhead can also register for an Independent Living course, taking place at Braywick Heath Nurseries, in Braywick Road, Maidenhead, starting on Tuesday, October 31. Classes run from 6pm to 8pm.
Among the topics covered by the Independent Living course are: healthy eating and basic cookery skills; budgeting and setting up and managing a bank account; personal hygiene; basic first aid; and building self-esteem
Please note that participants on the courses in Slough and Windsor & Maidenhead must be aged 19+. If you want to book for both the Independent Living and Socialeyes courses at the same time, funding rules mean we can only offer places on one course free of charge.
