Professionals who work with autistic children can benefit from discounted training

Thanks to funding from RCVYS (Reading Children’s & Voluntary Youth Services) Autism Berkshire is delighted to be able to provide a series of new training workshops for professionals who work with autistic children in Reading.

We are also able to offer discounted twilight or INSET training sessions about autism for groups of staff at schools and pre-schools in Reading for a fee of just £75.

The workshops are suitable for school staff, children’s social care workers and the voluntary sector and aim to increase understanding of autism among professionals, so that they are better able to include and support autistic children at school and in other settings and help them to achieve.

The workshops will be led by Carly Jones MBE, an autism advocate who lives in Arborfield. She has two autistic daughters and was herself diagnosed as autistic at the age of 32.

She said: “We aim to have open and frank discussions about autism, which is a huge subject in itself, and focus on a number of aspects.

“Courses like this can help us to move from a narrative of awareness and acceptance to taking action and making meaningful changes for families and individuals.

“Absolutely anyone who has any contact with autistic young people in their work, especially in schools, will benefit. It would be lovely to see some teachers – and senior members of school staff as well.”

Four workshops are available, looking at different aspects of autism.

They are: An Introduction to Autism; Autism and Girls (two dates are available for both these workshops); Sensory Differences; and Anger Management.

The venue for the workshops will be RISC (Reading International Solidarity Centre), in the centre of Reading.

Places at the workshops cost £10 per person for professionals who work in the Borough of Reading. Places can be booked by professionals from other council areas at a cost of £30 per person, which is our normal training fee.
