Reading Buses’ driver Darcey Harrington is stepping out from her cab to skydive from a plane 12,000ft above Salisbury Plain to raise money for Autism Berkshire.
All the money she collects in sponsorship will be going to Autism Berkshire, as we are Reading Buses’ 2018 Charity of the Year.
She has set herself a target of raising £500 with the tandem skydive next month, and already has pledges totalling more than £200.
Darcey, pictured right, from Arborfield, said: “My brother has done a skydive and he really enjoyed it, so I wanted to do one as well.
“I had kept saying ‘I’m going to do it, maybe I’ll do it next year’ but then I thought ‘I’ll just do it, book it and get it done’, so I can’t back out now.”
She added: “I’m not scared of heights or anything like that, but every time I talk about it, I get butterflies in my stomach and think “I don’t know if I can do it’ – it’s like going against your better nature to jump out of a plane.”

She will also be seeking sponsors at the Reading Buses Open Day on Sunday, July 1, ahead of her skydive on Friday, July 20, at GoSkyDive, near Old Sarum.
