Wellbeing & Autism course supports Reading parents

Autism Berkshire’s second free Wellbeing & Autism course for parents and carers of autistic children and young people who live in the Reading Borough Council area begins in January 2021.

The course looks at supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children and teenagers before and after an autism diagnosis, as well as the mental health and wellbeing of their parents.

The focus throughout the course is on strategies to promote and encourage positive and sustainable changes to wellbeing for the whole family.

Topics covered look at the issues from both the parent or carer’s perspective and that of the child and include:

  • Managing anxiety
  • Regulating emotions
  • Developing resilience
  • Coming to terms with a diagnosis or the possibility of getting one
  • Teenage years
  • Planning for the future.

The course runs online over six weekly classes, taking place between 10am and 11.45am on Thursday mornings, on the following dates:

  • Thursday, January 14, 2021, until Thursday, March 4. NB: There will not be a class on Thursday, February 18, due to the school half-term holiday.

Please note that, due to funding rules, this course is only open to families who live in the Borough of Reading. We hope to be able to offer it in other parts of Berkshire at a later date.
