The Berkshire West Autism & ADHD Support Service is running a free online Transitions to University clinic to help families of young people who are aiming to enter higher education.
This online event on Friday, September 17, from 10am to 11.30am, is open to families who are registered with a GP surgery that is part of the Berkshire West NHS Clinical Commissioning Group, which serves the Reading, Wokingham and West Berkshire council areas. They will be able to put questions to J-P Anderson, of Oxfordshire-based SenClude, which supports disabled students at universities and colleges across England and Wales.
He will be happy to answer questions from young people and their parents/carers about the types of support that are available for disabled students, advocacy, issues around accommodation, student life and more.
Autism Berkshire’s CEO Jane Stanford-Beale will bring a parent’s perspective to the event and discuss things to consider when applying for places on higher education course. All three of her sons received Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) while at university, along with tailored advice and support.
The event is particularly relevant to families of young people who have an autism or ADHD diagnosis – or are on the Berkshire CAMHS waiting lists for assessment – and are currently studying for A-Levels and BTEC qualifications in sixth form or at college and are considering applying for a place on a higher education course or about to start the UCAS application process.
