New course helps autistic people Get Chatting

Let’s Get Chatting is a new free social communication course developed by Autism Berkshire, which explores social conversations and social interaction for autistic young people and adults.

Topics covered during the course, which runs over seven weekly classes, include:

  • Why we have conversations
  • Body language
  • Conversation volume and tone
  • Facial expressions
  • Eye contact
  • Joining a conversation and ending a conversation.

The first Let’s Get Chatting course will take place online and is open to autistic young people aged 16 to 19, who are registered as patients with a GP surgery in the Berkshire West NHS area – the Reading, Wokingham and West Berkshire council areas. Click here for a list of these surgeries.

The classes are on the following Monday evenings, from 6pm to 8pm: October 31, November 7, 14, 21 and 28, December 5 and 12.

To register an interest in taking part in this or a future course, please email us as soon as possible at contact@autismberkshire.org.uk – put Let’s Get Chatting in the subject line – or complete our online contact form.

Please include a daytime phone number in your message, so that we can get in touch for an informal discussion to make sure that the course is suitable for you or a member of your family.
  • The initial Let’s Get Chatting course is funded by the Berkshire West NHS, through the Berkshire West Autism & ADHD Support Service, a partnership between Autism Berkshire and Parenting Special Children. In future, we hope to offer this course to other autistic young people and adults throughout Berkshire.
