Autism Berkshire is delighted to announce that we are reopening applications for the Thames Valley Autism Alert Card.
And we are also pleased to be able to announce that the alert card scheme’s running costs are now being funded by a donation from Reading-based Omnia, a company that provides payroll, human resources and employee engagement services to small & medium enterprises.
We had to stop taking applications for the cards during the spring after a backlog built up, which we have now cleared. More than 3,000 cards are now in use across the region.
The Thames Valley Autism Alert Card is available free of charge to children, young people and adults living in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Milton Keynes who have an autism diagnosis – we regret that we cannot issue cards to people who are waiting for an autism assessment or who are self-diagnosed, due to the rules of the scheme. Parents and carers can apply for cards for their children.
More than 2,000 frontline police officers throughout the Thames Valley Police area have been trained about autism and to recognise the alert card by staff from Autism Berkshire and our partners Talkback.
