Revised workshops for parents & carers of autistic adults on way

The Berkshire Adult Autism Support Service is running more free evening autism advice workshops for the parents and family carers of autistic adults in June.

The aim of these sessions is to help participants increase their understanding of aspects of autism and their confidence when supporting their relatives – the partners and siblings of autistic adults are encouraged to attend.

Please note that for you to be eligible to attend, the person you care for must be registered as a patient with an NHS GP surgery in Berkshire.

We have revised the workshops to ease the time commitment required, so there will now be two 2-hour workshops, rather than four. We recommend that people attend both sessions to get the most benefit from them, as the topics they cover complement each other.

They will take place on Tuesday evenings, between 6pm and 8pm, as follows

  • Sensory Differences and Executive Functioning: June 11
  • Anxiety & Autism and Understanding Other People: June 18

Autism Berkshire’s chief executive officer, Jane Stanford-Beale, said: “We have changed the number of workshops after some people found it hard to attend all four previously. The revised sessions will still cover all the key topics that parents and family carers will find useful.”

Free places at these workshops can be requested by contacting the Berkshire Adult Autism Support Service by email at adult.support@autismberkshire.org.uk or calling 01189 594 594 and leaving a voicemail message.

  • Please note that these workshops are not open to paid professional carers or personal assistants.
