On Sunday, April 26, people all over the UK will be taking part in the 2.6 Challenge to help UK charities – we are hoping you will get involved and support Autism Berkshire.
The coronavirus outbreak is having a catastrophic effect on charities, leading to an estimated loss of £4 billion in funding.
Charities like Autism Berkshire depend on income from fundraising events and many of these have been cancelled or postponed, including the Reading Half-Marathon.
For many charities, Sunday, April 26, would have been a key fundraising day, thanks to the London Marathon, which raised £66.4 million for charities last year.
In response, the UK’s mass participation sports event industry has come together to create The 2.6 Challenge, a nationwide fundraising campaign to Save the UK’s Charities.
They are inviting the public to dream up an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 and fundraise or donate to their chosen charity to help Save the UK’s Charities – and complete it it on or from Sunday, April 26.
It would be wonderful to have your support on the day for Autism Berkshire so that we can continue to support autistic people and their families in Berkshire during the coronavirus outbreak and as life starts to get back to normal when the shutdown ends.
How you can join in the 2.6 Challenge
– Dream up an activity based around the number 2.6 or 26 that suits your skills (and follows government guidelines on exercise and social distancing); it can be whatever you like – something as simple as walking up and down the stairs or round the garden 26 times, or walking, jogging or running 2.6 kilometres or 2.6 miles near your home.
– Then set up a Virgin Money Giving page to support Autism Berkshire by clicking on the button below. Once you have registered, search for and select Autism Berkshire as the charity you want to support with your 2.6 Challenge! Remember to let friends and family know what you are doing, so they can show their support for you by making a donation to Autism Berkshire.
– Or you can simply make a donation to our 2.6 Challenge appeal via Virgin Money Giving – donate £2.60, or £26, or any other amount you choose – using the button below
And don’t forget to share a photo or video of your challenge on social media with the hashtag #TwoPointSixChallenge and with the Autism Berkshire team – email pictures to us at communications@autismberkshire.org.uk
