Advice meet-ups for autistic adults coming to Bracknell

The Berkshire Adult Autism Support Service’s free face-to-face problem-solving and advice meet-ups are coming to Bracknell.

And for the first time, the service will be providing evening meet-ups, complementing existing daytime sessions in Reading and Slough.

Starting on Tuesday, November 11, the meet-ups in Bracknell will normally take place on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, from 6.30pm to 8pm, at Bracknell Open Learning Centre, in Rectory Lane.

Car parking is available at the venue, which is a 15-minute walk from Bracknell railway station and the town centre, and Thames Valley Buses services 108, 171 and 172 run along Rectory Lane past the centre.

All the service’s meet-ups offer an opportunity for autistic adults who are registered as patients at a GP surgery in Berkshire – and their parents/family carers – to get advice from the service’s adult autism support mentors about problems that are worrying them and information about how to find help.

Please note that the service is specifically funded to provide support to people who do not meet criteria for help from other NHS-funded specialist services, such as mental health and learning disability teams.

Autism Berkshire’s chief executive officer, Jane Stanford-Beale MBE, said: “We are delighted to be able to bring meet-ups to another community in Berkshire and to provide them in the evening to help people who are at work during the day.

“Wherever people live in Berkshire, they are welcome to attend whichever of the sessions in Bracknell, Reading and Slough is most convenient for them.”

Please register in advance to attend a meet-up if you can, so that we know who to expect, but you are welcome to just drop in on the day if you prefer.
