Autism Berkshire is delighted to be able to invite autistic adults who live in the county to take part in more free Art in the Summer workshops, funded by donations in memory of the late Nancy England, a former assistant tutor on our community education courses.
The workshops will once again take place at Beech Lodge School, in Stubbings Lane, on the western edge of Maidenhead, on the following Monday evenings, between 6pm and 8pm: May 13 & 20; June 3, 10, 17 & 24; July 1, 8 & 15.
They will be led by expert tutor Susi Hoyle, of Art Splash, which specialises in helping people to draw and create art.
Whether you already draw or paint, or would like to have a go, autistic adults of all abilities are welcome to take part in the sessions, which will each have a different theme – suggestions from participants will be welcome.
All the art materials needed for the workshops will be provided.
If you would like to take part this summer, please email Helen Harris at helen@autismberkshire.org.uk for information about how to book free places. And let her know if you may need assistance to travel to Beech Lodge School from the centre of Maidenhead or the town’s railway station.
Please note that if there is high demand for places, we will give priority to people who did not attend last year’s workshops.
- Nancy England, who died at the start of 2020, was a teacher at primary schools in Maidenhead and Reading for many years and her family decided to raise funds for us in her memory, to support a project linked to the arts and encouraging creativity for autistic people. The initial appeal raised more than £6,000 and her daughter Sophie, who visited one of the workshops last summer, set herself the goal of raising another £2,500 to help pay for more sessions this year.
